Linda
Askenazi,
MSW Executive Director
Linda graduated Wurzweiler School of Social Work
in 1981, to become the Director of the Council of Jewish Organizations
of Flatbush. While working there, she was asked by a member of
the board to interview for the job of Director of Hillel of Brooklyn
College. Although at first not interested, Linda then learned
that she probably wouldn't have gotten the job, being a woman
and a social worker. Quickly changing her mind, she applied and
became the first non-rabbi and first woman to direct the Brooklyn
College Hillel. What began as a two year commitment became a passion.
Linda sees Hillel as the most unifying force in the Jewish community.
Working with a strong board of directors on raising funds, Linda
sees her role as ensuring that the Hillel House remains attractive
and comfortable to students. As the visionary guiding the Brooklyn
College Hillel she considers it her responsibility to see to it
that everything done at Hillel reflects Jewish values, notably:
ethics, tolerance, compassion, and charity. Linda is married to
a Sephardic Jew from Mexico, has four children and enjoys vegetarian
food, jogging and talking a lot!
Linda
Askenazi, M.S.W., is available to students and community for counseling
(both personal and religious), help with program planning, and
connecting people with Jewish resources. Please be in contact
with her at any time.
