Rabbi Reuven Ibragimov Director Jewish Learning Initiative on Campus, Program Director Hillel at Brooklyn College & Long Island University
Born and bred in Brooklyn , New York , Reuven Ibragimov went through the yeshiva day school system and realized that something was missing. Post high school he spent a transformational year and a half at Yeshivat Neveh Zion where he spent his time deeply involved in learning. An inspired Reuven returned to Am eric a to then study at Brooklyn College where he completed a dual major in psychology and judaic studies. As an undergraduate, Reuven was actively involved in the creation of a local beit midrash program, Tiferet Bachurim. The yeshivah was geared for students attending college who wanted to utilize their mornings to learn Torah. During this time, Reuven worked as a full-time direct care worker for Ohel/Beis Ezra. He also founded Roots Eitz Chaim, a non-profit organization whose mission was to spread torah to Jewish students on the Brooklyn College campus. He was the editor-in-chief of the Roots Eitz Chaim parsha page which was eventually distributed throughout the tri-state area and various states across Am eric a . After marrying his wife, Nalini, they moved to Israel where he spent the next three years learning in kollel, including the Neveh Kollel where he received smicha. He completed the Talmidei Aharon program which prepares young couples to go to the Diaspora to teach and be involved in community outreach. He also received certification in drug counseling as an additional part of the Talmidei Aharon program. Reuven and his wife returned to Brooklyn to take the position as the JLIC coordinators at Brooklyn College where they have been working for the past four years. Nalini and Reuven live in Brooklyn , in close proximity to the campus, with their four children, Yaakov, Akiva, Meira Leah and Rachel.
